Important websites for film research

Using Google to find quality sources

Lots of excellent study guides, lecture notes, and scholarly articles for films can be found on the open web. One useful strategy is to search Google using the domain limiter :edu . This allows you to browse results on your topic limited only to academic sites.

For example, use Google to search for the film title Snowpiercer site:edu

You will get excellent results about the film Snowpiercer and climate change, as class critique, as myth and through symbolism. Many of these results take a deeper dive in to the film's structure, symbolism, or narrative strategies than a film review. Some of these may be available in our own databases, but many are published online in academic blogs, on academic websites, or by researchers.

If you find an article on Google behind a paywall, ask a librarian for help in locating free access.
